Data Storage Converter

Convert digital storage and transfer sizes. Decimal units (KB, MB, GB) step by 1,000; binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB) step by 1,024, which is why a “500 GB” drive shows as about 465 GiB in some operating systems.

500 GB =465.66129 GiB
Step-by-step working
  1. 1 GB = 0.9313225746 GiB
  2. 500 × 0.9313225746 = 465.66129 GiB

How to use the Data Storage Converter

  1. Enter the value to convert.
  2. Choose the unit you have and the unit you want.
  3. Press Convert. The table below shows the value in every unit.

Formula

Every unit is defined by its exact size in bytes. To convert, multiply by the “from” factor and divide by the “to” factor.

Examples

  • 500 GB = 465.66 GiB.
  • 100 Mb (megabits) = 12.5 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my internet speed in megabits?

Network speeds are quoted in bits per second. Divide by 8 for bytes: a 100 Mbps line moves at most 12.5 MB per second.
